Day 2 – Flight over Denali Park and Mount McKinley
This tour travels north across the Mat-Su valley, up the Kahiltna Glacier, past “Little Switzerland” and the 7.2 climbers base camp and through Kahiltna Pass at an altitude of about 11,000 ft right next to the tallest mountain in North America towering over 20,000 ft. Beside it stands Mt Foraker at 17,400 ft., Mt Hunter at 14,500 ft. and numerous other peaks over 11,000 ft.
Once through the pass we turn east as we view the famous “Wickersham Wall” on the north face of the mountain and on around until we descend into the Amphitheater viewing the Great Gorge, the Ruth Glacier forks and the many wonderful icefalls that surround the Amphitheater as we descend. In warmer weather many large pools of brilliant blue water can be seen standing on the surface of the glaciers. Leaving the Amphitheater we fly down the Ruth Glacier through the Great Gorge, over the Ruth icefalls then south back across the Mat-Su valley looking for moose and bears.
We often see climbers from May through July as 1200-1500 climbers frequent the mountain every year. This complete circle around Mt McKinley is a truly wonderful way to see Mt McKinley and Denali National Park. Approximately 2 hours 15 minutes
Day 3 – Bus tour to Whittier and Catamaran cruise.
Leave the driving to us! Our Glacier Cruise provides daily transportation to Whittier along the scenic Seward Highway designated a scenic byway by the US Forest Service. You will travel through Portage Valley, past Portage Glacier, on your way to the longest shared tunnel in North America. Through the tunnel will emerge the town of Whittier, where your Glacier Quest Cruise adventure begins! The Glacier Quest is your quickest way to see the massive tidewater glaciers of Alaska. Enjoy the towering cliffs, sea birds and otters. Watch for wildlife on the shore too, as your captain guides the boat across pristine waters to Blackstone and Beloit glacier, some of the most amazing sights you will ever see.
Day 4 – Transfer tour to Seward
Take some extra time to enjoy the ride. This is our most popular transfer option which features live tour commentary and photo stops at Beluga Point and Canyon Creek Overlook (Seward)
Also included on all sightseeing tour transfers is an approximately one hour visit to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to view Alaska’s most famous animals up close in a natural setting. During this visit you’ll get great pictures of real live Bears, Moose, Muskox, Caribou, Bison, and more. This is the perfect way to start or end your Alaska cruise.
The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
With over 200,000 visitors every year, this is one of Alaska’s most popular attractions and is featured on each sightseeing transfer tour with Anchorage Tours and Transfers.
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) is a non profit organization dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through public education. AWCC takes in injured and orphaned animals year-round and provides spacious enclosures and quality animal care.
Animals that cannot be released into the wild are given a permanent home at the center.
Amateur photographers have the opportunity to take award winning photographs while animals display their natural, “wild”, behavior. Coyotes peer out from behind the brush while a bald eagle swoops in on the salmon remains left by a grizzly bear. Wood Bison plod through 65 acres of tidal flat terrain, as part of a program that will one day restore the species to the Alaskan wilderness.
